Ag in the Classroom
Monsanto employees volunteered to educate approximately 1,000 students during the 2013 Agriculture in the Classroom field trip to the Maui Tropical Plantation on March 7 and 8, 2013.
Monsanto was among 6 organizations that presented a variety of ag-related activities to 2nd graders from 15 elementary schools on Maui. Our employees shared information about the various parts of a plant, using 1,200 super sweet corn seedlings that we germinated.
This educational field trip was part of Maui County Farm Bureau’s annual Agriculture in the Classroom program. In grade schools, this youth education program focuses on building awareness of where food comes from. In high schools and colleges, the emphasis shifts to career opportunities including plant and animal science, agricultural economics, human nutrition, and environmental stewardship.
