Duvauchelle captures Monsanto Hawaii’s Outstanding Plant Sciences Exhibit Award

Olapaholunape (“Olapa”) Duvauchelle a sixth grader at Kaunakakai School was named the winner of this year’s Monsanto Hawaii Outstanding Plant Sciences Exhibit Award.

Duvauchelle’s project, “The Effects of Different Water Mixtures on the Germination of Crotalaria juncea Seed,” presented at the Maui Schools Science Fair demonstrated how adding things to water like soap, sugar and salt lowers the average germination rate of TROPIC SUN sunn hemp, a cultivar of Crotalaria juncea.

In conclusion, the best way to germinate TROPIC SUN seed is to use only water. Duvachelle hopes that her findings might help people who want to grow plants.
