Lanakila: supporting our seniors

In 2012, Catholic Charities Hawai’i’s Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center (LMPSC) received a much-needed Spring Cleaning through the help and support of Monsanto Hawaii.

Employees and volunteers spent well over 200 volunteer hours on the project, trimming overgrown trees, planting flowers, creating a community garden, and making the center more welcoming for its more than 2,000 senior members.

Monsanto Hawaii visited LMPSC numerous times to get measurements and create a detailed action plan. Over the course of three days, volunteers trimmed overgrown trees, repaired the Center’s irrigation system, created a potted garden for the seniors and even pruned trees so that the flowers would bloom at a lower level making it easier for seniors to pick the flowers and use them for lei-making. Employees also made personal monetary donations in support of the project.
